Larimer County's landfill era just changed: the Taft Hill Road landfill (5887 S Taft Hill Rd) closed to public self-haul disposal on August 1, 2026, with the new North Landfill near Wellington and a transfer station at the old Taft Hill site opening August 3, 2026 - a delivered roll-off spares Laporte residents navigating the new self-haul routine.
Unincorporated Laporte has no municipal trash utility or bulk-item pickup program - residents contract private haulers individually, so a rented roll-off is the standard route for oversized loads and cleanouts.
The Larimer County Household Hazardous Waste facility at 5887 S Taft Hill Rd is free for all county residents (open Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, Sat 8:00-4:30) - the right destination for paint, chemicals, and other items prohibited in roll-off dumpsters.
With a median home build year of 1977 and many pre-1980 farmhouses and outbuildings, Laporte projects commonly generate remodel and demolition debris - including materials that may need testing or special handling in older structures.
Older, semi-rural housing stock: median year built is about 1977, with roughly 72% detached single-family homes plus a share of manufactured homes, on lots ranging from quarter-acre in-town parcels to 35+ acre horse properties. Population is essentially flat (2,409 at the 2020 census, ~2,324 estimated 2025) - the opposite of Timnath/Windsor's new-build boom - so dumpster demand skews to remodels, barn and outbuilding cleanouts, and acreage cleanup rather than new construction.
We deliver all over Laporte: Vern's Place (US 287 roadside diner serving Laporte since 1946), Cache la Poudre River and the Cache la Poudre River National Heritage Area, Watson Lake State Wildlife Area (red-rock backdrop, Poudre River access), US Highway 287 / County Road 54G corridor through Old Town Laporte, and everywhere between.
Laporte is unincorporated, so roll-off placement falls under Larimer County rules rather than any city hall: a dumpster on your own driveway or private land needs no placement permit, but setting one in a county road right-of-way counts as an encroachment and requires approval from the Larimer County Engineering Division ([email protected], 970-498-5709), while US 287 frontage is CDOT-controlled and not practical for container placement. Unlike Loveland, which operates its own city trash utility, Laporte has no municipal service or exclusive hauler contract - waste collection is open market, so any roll-off company may serve addresses here. Haulers using the Larimer County landfill system simply carry the county's annual hauler license, a licensing requirement on the company that does not limit residents' choice of provider.
